MA and PhD Programs in Visual Sociology

Goldsmiths is one the main hubs of Visual Sociology. Goldsmiths hosts the only MA program in Visual Sociology in the world, and it also hosts a specialized MA in Photography and Urban Culture, as well as a specialized PhD program in Visual Sociology. A significant percentage of its full time staff work in Visual Sociology and neighbouring fields, including Les Back, Vikki Bell, Rebecca Coleman, Michael Guggenheim, Paul Halliday, Kat Jungnickel, Nirmal Puwar, and Nina Wakeford, among others, with interests ranging from urban photography to exhibition making, and digital and inventive visual methods. At Goldsmiths visual sociology gets pushed into all kinds directions, yet it is firmly rooted at the center of everythign the department does.
