Peter Winter

Pre-Doc in Medical Education

I am currently looking for a PhD studentship to examine how Yr 5 Medical and Yr 3 Radiography Students learn to interpret X-rays, and how they apply this combination of knowledge and skills in their first year of work.

My interest/reading generally falls in the social studies of scientific imaging and visualization (SIV) and basic radiology/radiography education, particularly in the training of undergraduate diagnosticans in and around medical images.

I have begun a new stream of research considering ‘undergraduate’ experiences during image interpretation (normality vs. abnormality) to foster appropriate reflective learning, a research field that has been neglected until now. My intention is to establish the dimension of ‘student epistemology’ in medical imaging previously ignored.

An article based on some of my MSc findings was recently published in the journal Radiography.
