I first discovered IVSA through my doctoral advisor, Eric Margolis. I was searching for an academic community that shared my interests in strategic visual messages, emerging media, and community-based art projects, and he suggested I would fit in well with the visual scholars in IVSA. I joined IVSA on his suggestion, and I couldn’t be happier with the community I’ve found. I am constantly intrigued and by the visual work IVSA members produce, and being part of the IVSA board inspires my own work daily.

Currently I teach visual rhetoric, culture studies, and digital media courses for the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. Together with my husband and creative partner, Todd Stewart, we also own and operate Zemmez, a digital media incubator specializing in technology development and consultation for small businesses. In my free time, I am a digital artist and storyteller. My current research project is a digital ethnography exploring the fading history of the Papago Park WWII German Prisoner of War Camp – a war camp located in Scottsdale, Arizona that interred over 3,000 German soldiers, and what the neighborhood I live in was before it became a suburb.
