This film tells the story of the origins of Visible Voice as a small project working with remote village communities in Kyrgyzstan Central Asia. The film provides an insight into life in two remote communities in Kyrgyzstan and includes extracts from films made by villagers.
Visible Voice began as a small two week field study of everyday life in two remote mountain communities in Kyrgyzstan. I had been working with partners in Kyrgyzstan over a number of years on different projects and at the same time using video in my teaching practice to help students understand and gain skills in narrative structure.
Looking for ways to try to keep things moving on I took advantage of an invitation from a Kyrgyz NGO, Ak Terek, to contribute to workshops in the villages of Tolok and Kok Jar.
Two years after the first workshops we returned to the villages for more workshops and to find out what had been happening during that time.
