Wardens Gardens
Inspired by studies of historical memory, its transmission and, in particular, the legacy of the Gulag, aspects of the spread of prison culture throughout the body of the former Soviet Union, the authors of the movie decided to see how this history was interpreted in Georgia.
In the movie we are not talking about the Gulag in its classical sense, it is a movie, as always, about people, about their memory and their perception. It is a sociological documentary about people who lived and worked in the camp system near the small town of Khoni, 25 km away from Kutaisi. They are still living there today. Around the town there were huge tea plantations, where the prisoners worked and supplied the whole huge country with the drink, until the collapse of the USSR.
Now everything is in oblivion. Except for the people and their memories.
