Chinelo L. Njaka, Ph.D.
IVSA Board Member Elect
Chinelo L. Njaka, Ph.D. (she/her/hers) is a sociologist and multidisciplinary artist. She is also the Founder and Director of Peckham Rights!, a non-profit organization based in London, UK. Her research interests center around the critical examination of race, racism, and racialization. Her current research explores the intersection of race and craft practices throughout the Black Atlantic, focusing on quilt-making and visual storywork.
Dr. Njaka’s interest in the International Visual Sociology Association stems from the increasingly interconnected nature of her research and artistic practices. Relatively new to IVSA, she has found a welcoming and supportive network. She desires to contribute to IVSA’s continued development and growth over the next three years through service on the Board.
Dr. Njaka looks forward to contributing to the Board in promoting equity and diversity, supporting early career researchers, facilitating journal publication, assisting in conference planning, and enhancing communication to the membership and the wider IVSA community. As a passionate advocate for both sociological research and the power of visual expression, she is dedicated to furthering IVSA’s mission, nurturing its growth, and upholding IVSA’s shared values.
