Conference Travel Advice

IVSA Conference attendees may find the last leg of their journey to be a bit complicated. However, we have prepared this guide to get you to the conference. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at: ivsa2019.gmail.com.

Orientation

Skidmore College is located roughly three hours north of New York City and three hours south of Montréal, Quebec, Canada.

The nearest airport is Albany, 30 minutes away. There is frequent train service from New York City to Albany, and there are four trains each day from New York City to Saratoga Springs.

For those driving, Interstate 87 connects the New York City area and Saratoga Springs.

Directions

Albany Train Station to Skidmore College

  • Uber ($50 to $60)
  • Taxi ($50 to $60)
  • Ask to be dropped off at Case Center; housing registration will be in Case Center

Albany Airport to Skidmore College

  • Uber ($40 to $50)
  • Taxi ($50 to $60)
  • Ask to be dropped off at Case Center; housing registration will be in Case Center

John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport to Skidmore College

  1. First step, travel from JFK to New York City:
    1. Taxi into New York City ($52 flat rate plus tolls, fastest but more expensive)
    2. Airtrain/Subway ($7.25; it takes longer but less expensive)
      • Take Airtrain to Sutphan Boulevard Station, where you can catch the E train downtown to 34 St Penn Station (for Amtrak trains) or 42 St./Port Authority Bus Terminal (for buses).
  2. Amtrak train from Penn Station to Saratoga Springs Train Station ($120-$160 round trip); from Saratoga Springs Train Station to Skidmore College, see the last item, below.
  3. Greyhound bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Saratoga Springs Train Station ($80-$100 round trip); from Saratoga Springs Train Station to Skidmore College, see the last item, below.
  4. Renting a car: 3-hour drive (price varies)

Newark Airport to Skidmore College

  1. First step, travel from Newark Airport to New York City:
    1. Taxi into New York City ($50-$70 tolls not included; fastest but most expensive).
    2. Airtrain/Subway ($12.50; takes longer but less expensive).
      • Take the Airtrain from your arrival terminal to Airtrain Station, where you can catch a New Jersey Transit train to New York’s Penn Station.
  2. Amtrak train from Penn Station, NY to Saratoga Springs Train Station ($120-$160 round trip); from Saratoga Springs Train Station to Skidmore College, see the last item, below.
  3. Greyhound bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Saratoga Springs Train Station ($80-$100 round-trip); from Saratoga Springs Train Station to Skidmore College, see the last item, below.
  4. Renting a car–3-hour drive (price varies)

LaGuardia Airport to Skidmore College

  1. First step, travel from LaGuardia to New York City:
    1. Taxi into New York City ($50-$70, tolls not included)
    2. There is no easy way to take the subway from LaGuardia to New York City.
  2. Amtrak train from Penn Station, NY to Saratoga Springs Train Station ($120-$160 round trip); from Saratoga Springs Train Station to Skidmore College, see the last item, below.
