The Handbook of Participatory Video

Participatory video is a growing area of research and an increasingly popular tool among researchers and NGOs working with communities around the world. The Handbook of Participatory Video advances the field, engaging critically with it as a research methodology and method and interrogating assumptions about its emancipatory nature and potential for social change.

Working across cultures: Autonomy, Moral Agency and Consent in Kyrgyz Culture

This exhibit features an extract from an ongoing documentary project aiming to provide an insight into Kyrgyz culture and its influence on everyday life in Kyrgyzstan. The film features an interview with an artist we met during visits to the Issy Kul region of Kyrgyzstan in 2011. Our visit took place a few months after a a short but bloody revolution and subsequent ethnic violence in the South of the country that had a seriously disrupting impact on the Kyrgyz national psyche.

Visible Voices Changing Lives

This film tells the story of the origins of Visible Voice as a small project working with remote village communities in Kyrgyzstan Central Asia. The film provides an insight into life in two remote communities in Kyrgyzstan and includes extracts from films made by villagers.
