I am a practice-led researcher, participatory and ethnographic filmmaker, and an academic. I explore ethnographic and participatory practice, engaging with marginalised, disadvantaged or declining people and their cultures, species, places and ecosystems, to promote dialogue in search of positive transformation.
Influenced by Paulo Freire, I work locally and globally with communities, non-governmental organisations and social development organisations, utilising participatory methods. My practice-led research is often empirical, seeking insights into the livesĀ of people and communities to make tangible connections between lived-experiences and policy. At the start of my career, I lived in Nepal for five years working in participatory development communication.
I founded Marginal Voices as a not-for-profit organisation to facilitate my practice and have now engaged with various communities in about twenty countries around the world. I am a Professor at the University of South Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom, where I support students in areas related to my practice-led research, at undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels.
